homemade nutella

If you love nutella as much as I do, this recipe is for you!! I won’t pretend that this homemade nutella tastes exactly like the real stuff. It doesn’t, but it’s very good nonetheless. When you mix chocolate and hazelnuts together, it’s very hard not to get a delicious treat. Unlike real nutella, this homemade version is made with good ingredients. It’s not chalked full of sugar and other inflammatory ingredients. In fact, it’s refined sugar free!

What I used:

Hazelnuts: Trader Joe’s Raw Oregon Hazelnuts

Cacao: Volupta’s Organic, Fair Trade Cacao Powder

Coconut Sugar: Better Body Food’s Organic Coconut Palm Sugar

Vanilla Extract: Simply Organic’s Pure Vanilla Extract

Salt: Redmond’s Real Salt

Tips for making homemade nutella:

  • If you are using roasted hazelnuts, skip the first four steps of this recipe. Remember: when buying roasted nuts, there should never be any type of oil listed in the ingredients. Nuts have natural oils, so they don’t need any additional oil in the roasting process. Many time when oil is listed in the ingredients, that means they were actually quickly deep fried instead of roasted.

  • When roasting your hazelnuts, be careful not to burn them. Burnt hazelnuts will make your nutella taste bitter.

  • Removing the skin of the roasted hazelnuts is not essential, but highly recommended. Removing the skin helps you get a smoother nut butter.

  • You can replace cacao with cocoa.

  • You can use a high speed blender (like a Vitamix) instead of a food processor to make your nut butter.

  • Make sure to stop and scrap the sides of your food processor or blender. This will help to make sure you get an even texture.

  • Your nutella with thicken as it cools.

nourish your body.
